Southern California D-League Week in Review

Tulsa 66ers 105, Anaheim Arsenal 98

The 66ers recovered from a 4th quarter rally by the Arsenal to win 105-98 Tuesday night in Anaheim.

The Arsenal began the 4th quarter trailing 87-73 when they went on a 15-0 run to take a 88-87 lead. Jawad Williams (North Carolina) led the charge with 8 points during the run. Williams finished with a team high 25 points.

Tulsa finally scored with 5:30 left in the period on a 15-foot jumper by Cheyne Gadson (Oklahoma State). Gadson finished with 20 points (8 of 21).

After another Arsenal basket, Tulsa took the lead for good on consecutive baskets by Denham Brown (Connecticut) who finished with a game high 32 points.

Tulsa Notes:

Denham Brown – Denham was 12 of 21 from the floor and a perfect 7 of 7 from the free throw line. He showed a nice midrange game and also hit the glass hard. He grabbed 10 rebounds including 6 offensive boards. It was his second consecutive game with 10 rebounds. He had a big 2nd quarter - 13 points and 4 rebounds.

Will Conroy – Will seemed a bit off tonight. He had his usual 10 assists but committed 4 turnovers and shot only 2 of 9 from the floor. In his previous game at Bakersfield he was close to a triple-double with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists.

Cezary Trybanski – Cezary had 5 blocked shots in the game and altered many other Arsenal attempts. He had the ever-popular back-to-back blocks in the 2nd quarter as he rejected Greg Clasuen and then swatted Milone Clark’s follow up. Cezary has seen some NBA action with Memphis, Phoenix and New York and if he gets called up, it would be purely as a shot blocker. He has bad hands – only 3 rebounds in 30 minutes, doesn’t score – only two attempts - and fouled out of the game.

Anaheim Notes:

Corsley Edwards – Corsley had a game high 14 rebounds including 6 in the 1st quarter alone. He uses his big frame and good positioning to get the boards. In his past two games he is averaging 21 points and 13 rebounds. Most of his points come inside, but he has shown that he can knock down the midrange shots if he is left open.

Idaho Stampede 96, Los Angeles D-Fenders 86

The Idaho Stampede came into Southern California with a 1-6 record. They left with a 3-6 record after downing the Los Angeles D-Fenders 96-86.

The D-Fenders showed little defense in the 2nd quarter when the Stampede outscored them 36-14 to build a 17 point half time lead.

The Stampede had six players who scored at least ten points led by Ronnell Taylor’s eighteen. Taylor also added 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Devin Green led the D-Fenders with 20 points on 8 of 15 shooting.

Idaho Notes:

Ronell Taylor (UAB) – Ronell was the leading scorer in both Stampede games this week. He had 24 points off the bench on 12 of 16 shooting against Anaheim and 18 points on 7 of 12 shooting against Los Angeles. The 6’5” guard also collected 16 rebounds in the two games. He shows good quickness but lacks the ball handling and passing skills needed to play the point. He is the twin borther of Washington Wizards’ guard Donell Taylor.

Peter John Ramos – Ramos had 12 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocked shots against the D-Fenders. He uses his big frame to get good post position and has a nice touch on shots near the basket. He is shooting 60% on the season. He is slow defensively, but is so big and has such a long reach that he is still effective. On one such play, D-Fenders guard was driving to the basket and changed directions to the left. It seemed as though he had beaten Ramos, but Ramos spun and got the block from behind. Ramos is still raw, but at only 21 years old, he should get back to the NBA if he continues to improve.
