Darius Washington Signs With P.A.O.K.

Darius Washington has accepted an offer to play for Greek team P.A.O.K Thessaloniki. Washington was recently a first round pick of the Austin Toros in the NBDL draft, and was expected to be one of the better point guards in the league. His D-League contract buyout was $20,000.

P.A.O.K. plays in the ULEB Cup, and signed Washington to replace struggling combo-guard Ivan Thomas. The Greek League restricts the number of American players per team to 2, and Washington will be playing with former NBA player Jerome Allen, who can play either guard spot.

Some people thought Washington was one of the closest D-League players to reaching the NBA, but that will have to wait for now. The signing will hurt the Austin Toros, who are left with Brock Gillespie and Melvin Scott at the point guard spot. Washington entered the draft out of Memphis as a sophomore in college, and originally signed to play in the D-League after being cut from the Dallas Mavericks' training camp roster.

Details on Darius Washington’s contract have not yet been released to us at this time. He is leaving for Greece tomorrow, and could play for his new club as soon as Tuesday in the ULEB Cup against Belgian team Dexia Mons.
