Vegas Summer League Day 11

Vegas Summer League Day 11
Jul 16, 2007, 03:22 am
Game One: Washington Wizards 79, Milwaukee Bucks 67

Washington

Mike Hall
17 Points, 6 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 1 Blocks, 3 Turnovers, 3 Fouls, 7-11 FG, 1-2 3FG, 2-2 FT

-Hall played exceptionally today, scoring in a variety of ways on his way to an impressive offensive performance.
-Hall looked very controlled offensively, using floaters, up-and-unders, and ball fakes to score consistently throughout the game.
-Hall hit quite a few tough shots, including a couple of and-one midrange jumpers.
-The Wizards clearly have interest in Hall at this point in time, having made a qualifying offer for him. Multiple European teams have tried to sign him from what we’ve been told, but Hall is staying put for now.

Dominic McGuire
18 Points, 4 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 1 Steal, 3 Turnovers, 2 Fouls, 5-12 FG, 0-2 3FG, 8-12 FT

-McGuire was very active offensively all game, getting into the lane and using his body to create scoring opportunities.
-McGuire converted on a handful of shots with contact, and has proven to be more than capable of getting to the line on this level. He is capable of finishing with both hands, and elevates very well off of jump stops.
-McGuire missed the one outside shot he took, and will no doubt be working on that part f his game for the future. Adding a consistent pull-up jumper from mid-range to his arsenal would benefit him.

Kyle Visser
2 Points, 4 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 1 Steal, 3 Turnovers, 4 Fouls, 1-6 FG

-Visser had a tough game from the field today, and had a hard time making an impact overall.
-Visser’s floor game is a bit mechanical, as his moves look a little robotic and he struggles to dribble with his left hand when going full speed to the rim.
-Visser did a decent job defensively, and gets a hand in his man’s face constantly, but he could improve his timing.

Aaron Miles
12 Points, 2 Rebounds, 3 Assists, 0 Turnovers, 2 Fouls, 5-5 FG, 2-2 FT

-Miles played a smart game today, utilizing his matchup against Randy Livingston to put up numbers on the offensive end.
-Miles used his quickness advantage over Livingston to get into the paint at will, and did a very good job of finish in traffic. Miles has good touch with both hands, and put that to use throughout this contest.
-Miles also did a good job of distributing the ball, as he always does. Defensively, Miles didn’t give up anything easy, and kept his man out of the lane.

Nick Young
11 Points, 1 Assist, 1 Steal, 1 Block, 3 Turnovers, 1 Foul, 4-9 FG, 3-3 FT

-Young was significantly less aggressive shooting the ball today than he has been in the past few contests, but still did a solid job on the offensive end.
-Young has a lot tools to be a good offensive player, but hasn’t been able to find his stroke consistently.
-Young ran the point better than he did yesterday, but didn’t create a lot of opportunities for his teammates. He has tunnel vision to the rim at times, passing up opportunities for teammates.

Milwaukee

Damir Markota
8 Points, 5 Rebounds, 3 Assists, 1 Steal, 5 Turnover, 1 Foul, 3-8 FG, 2-2 FT

-Markota didn’t have a great game, but wasn’t a slouch either.
-Markota has poor rotation on his jump shot, and this limits his consistency.
-Markota made some bad passes on the offensive end, including one especially poor pass coming after he passed up a wide open look.
-Markota passes relatively well for big man, but occasionally gets a little overaggressive forcing teammates to make plays on his bad passes.

Awvee Storey
11 Points, 7 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 1 Steal, 1 Turnover, 3 Fouls, 4-9 FG, 1-3 3FG, 2-2 FT

-Storey put in a good game of work, looking especially impressive when shooting the ball from the perimeter.
-Storey’s form is a thing of beauty at times, but he doesn’t always shoot the ball with the same form. Given time, his shot is very consistent, but he usually does have that much time or space.
-Storey worked hard on the glass, and has above average athleticism.

Noel Felix
7 Points, 3 Rebounds, 2 Blocks, 3 Turnovers, 5 Fouls, 2-6 FG, 3-5 FT

-Felix’s statline doesn’t reflect how well he played today.
-Felix showed a number of nice moves, including a deep fadeaway jumper, a spin move, and a drop stop.
-Felix was good on the defensive end, showing good bounce his feet are set and above average timing.

Ramon Sessions
10 Points, 3 Rebounds, 3 Assists, 1 Steal, 1 Turnover, 1 Foul, 3-7 FG, 4-6 FT

-Sessions had a quiet game today, which has been the story of his time in Vegas.
-Sessions has a nice stroke, and shot the ball relatively well from the perimeter.
-Sessions won’t surprise anyone with his quickness, but runs the floor hard enough to get occasional looks from inside. He is also able to find his teammates well, and makes good decisions on the fly.

David Noel
12 Points, 4 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 3 Turnovers, 5 Fouls, 4-12 FG, 1-2 3FG, 3-3 FT

-Noel played a decent game today, but wasn’t as good as he was in his debut.
-Noel’s jump shot doesn’t have the best form, but he still possesses solid consistency from the perimeter.
-Noel finished well around the rim, and is the kind of athlete that can do that consistently on any level.

Spencer Nelson
11 Points, 2 Rebounds, 5 Turnovers, 8 Fouls, 5-5 FG, 1-2 FT

-Nelson looked good today, especially when he received the ball around the rim.
-Nelson has good body control for a player his size, and is able to finish from a number of angles.
-Nelson knows he isn’t going to out jump many defenders, so he tends to use the rim to protect the ball by taking reverse layups.
-Nelson isn’t quick enough to be a great defender, and will need to learn how to position himself better to cut down on fouls.

Game Two: New York Knicks , Denver Nuggets

New York

Renaldo Balkman
9 Points, 7 Rebounds, 5 Assists, 1 Block, 1 Steal, 1 Turnover, 1 Foul, 3-8 FG, 3-4 FT

-Balkman didn’t play as well as he did yesterday, but still came through with a strong performance.
-Balkman had another strong game on the glass, getting after every possible miss.
-Balkman does a very good job of getting his teammates open looks, and draws a crowd every time he drives towards the rim.

Wilson Chandler
15 Points, 10 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 3 Blocks, 1 Turnover, 3 Fouls, 6-14 FG, 0-1 3FG, 3-3 FT

-Chandler had a quality game today, and produced one rather interesting stat.
-Chandler missed a number of 7-10 footers today, but rebounded three of his own misses for baskets.
-Chandler has a great mid range game already, and it shows in every game he plays.

Randolph Morris
10 Points, 10 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 2 Blocks, 4 Turnovers, 5 Fouls, 4-5 FG, 2-4 FT

-Morris played a highly efficient game today, finishing well around the basket and proving dominant on the glass.
-Morris has added quite a bit of weight to his frame of the last season and a half, and he is utilizing it well down low.
-Morris showed nice range on a catch and shoot, knocking one down from 15 feet, and finished a nice jump stop in the paint with great touch.

Demetris Nichols
23 Points, 4 Rebounds, 3 Assists, 1 Turnover, 4 Fouls, 9-16 FG, 2-5 3FG, 3-4 FT

-Nichols played well today, and made it a point to get himself going off the dribble.
-Nichols hit a few shots from the perimeter, and used that to force his defender to play him close. Subsequently, Nichols got into the lane well and had a pretty easy time finishing around the rim.
-Nichols has been impressive all week, and has definitely earned a spot somewhere in the NBA.

Nate Robinson
24 Points, 5 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 3 Turnovers, 6 Fouls, 6-12 FG, 3-6 3FG, 9-9 FT

-Robinson, the MOP of the Summer League, played a very good game overall
-Robinson showed very good range on his jumper, and can get is shot off any time he wants on this level.
-Robinson had a couple of rebounds including one especially impressive one that he grabbed well above the rim at full extension in a crowd of defenders.

Brian Greene
16 Points, 5 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 1 Block, 1 Turnover, 5-10 FG, 6-7 FT

-Greene did a very solid job this game, doing most his damage in the fourth quarter.
-Greene doesn’t have tremendous consistency from deep, but possesses a pretty good midrange jumper.
-Greene makes a lot of hustle plays, and is very much a lunchpail type of player.

Roderick Wilmont
13 Points, 3 Rebounds, 1 Steal, 2 Turnovers, 1 Foul, 5-11 FG, 2-3 3FG, 1-2 FT

-Wilmont worked hard today, and came away with an above average statline.
-Wilmont hasn’t played too many minutes here in Vegas, but showed some solid range on his jumper today.
-Wilmont is aggressive from the midrange, but doesn’t always come away with positive results. He played a bit selfish at times, passing up wide open teammates for contested looks of his own.

Denver

Will Blalock
10 Points, 4 Assists, 1 Steal, 3 Turnovers, 4-6 FG, 1-2 3FG, 1-4 FT

-Blalock was extremely steady today, and proved to be a handful out on the perimeter.
-Blalock doesn’t have the most consistent form, but hits the majority of his shots when given time.
-Blalock did his job by distributing the ball and finishing around the rim, but he will need to improve his consistency from the field.

Dontaye Draper
15 Points, 6 Rebounds, 6 Assists, 1 Steal, 1 Turnover, 1 Foul, 5-9 FG, 2-4 3FG, 3-3 FT

-Draper came up big in the fourth quarter, and had arguably his best game here in Vegas.
-Draper won’t wow anyone with his shooting, but managed to hit a handful of catch and shoot jumpers today.
-Draper distributed the ball well from the point, but also managed to put in some unexpected work on the glass.

Von Wafer
42 Points, 3 Rebounds, 3 Assists, 1 Steal, 4 Turnovers, 2 Fouls, 16-26 FG, 5-9 3FG, 5-5 FT

-Von Wafer blew up in his last game in Vegas, catching fire in the second half and scorching the nets from 19 fourth quarter points.
-Wafer was hitting shots off the dribble, off of the catch, and from inside the paint.
-Wafer showed tremendous range, and was simply unbelievable from the outside late in the game. Wafer hit a handful of shots with a hand in his face, and was pretty much unstoppable.

Game Three: Minnesota Timberwolves 84, Phoenix Suns 81

Minnesota

Rashad McCants
32 Points, 4 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 4 Turnovers, 4 Fouls, 8-16 FG, 1-3 3FG, 15-19 FT

-McCants poured in 30 points in the first half, but managed to score only 2 points the rest of the game.
-McCants dominated Alando Tucker off of flex cuts, and utilized his size advantage to bully Tucker down low.
-McCants didn’t really get very many opportunities in the second half, but displayed good range and solid shooting in the first.

Randy Foye
12 Points, 5 Rebounds, 4 Assists, 1 Steal, 5 Turnovers, 7 Fouls, 4-14 FG, 3-7 3FG, 1-3 FT

-Foye played a decent game today, but could have been more efficient from the field.
-Foye has clearly improved his consistency from three-point range, and looks a lot more comfortable shooting from the outside.
-Foye showed well in Vegas, and is still developing at a pretty solid rate.

Craig Smith
21 Points, 4 Rebounds, 3 Assists, 1 Block, 4 Turnovers, 2 Fouls, 9-15 FG, 3-5 FT

-Smith made an impact down low offensively, but didn’t have his normal game on the glass
-Smith worked well with Randy Foye off the pick and roll, leading to a few easy baskets for himself.
-Smith did a good job finding his teammates from the block as well, tossing Luke Schenscher an especially nice pass in traffic for a dunk.

Corey Brewer
5 Points, 10 Rebounds, 7 Assists, 1 Steal, 1 Block, 5 Turnovers, 2 Fouls, 1-5 FG, 3-4 FT

-Brewer didn’t get a lot of chances to shoot today, but managed to put together a great game nonetheless.
-Brewer did all the little things today, getting him teammates involved off of cuts and grabbing quite a few rebounds in traffic.
-Brewer had one especially nice play, which consisted of an impressive block of a DJ Strawberry dunk.

Phoenix

Alando Tucker
13 Points, 2 Rebounds, 1 Assists, 3 Turnovers, 3 Fouls, 6-18 FG, 0-4 3FG, 1-3 FT

-Tucker had a rough day from the field and an even rougher day defensively, but still played decently.
-Tucker was matched up with Rashad McCants in the first half, and had a very tough time defending the extremely physical wing in the paint.
-Tucker didn’t display great range today, and is still trying to find his stroke from deep.

DJ Strawberry
12 Points, 6 Rebounds, 7 Assists, 2 Steals, 10 Turnovers, 5 Fouls, 3-13 FG, 2-7 3FG, 4-6 FT

-Strawberry did a lot of things well and a lot of things poorly today.
-Strawberry gave up the ball far too many times, and really needs to work on his decision making.
-Strawberry showed range from the field, and is clearly trying to improve his shot on the job.

Otis George
8 Points, 12 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 1 Block, 2 Turnovers, 3 Fouls, 4-10 FG, 0-1 3FG

-George didn’t have the best day shooting the ball, but proved to be a very good rebounder down low.
-George made a big impact on the glass, and got after the ball on both ends.
-George’s extra effort led to one very impressive tip dunk on the offensive end, where he almost jumped clear over an unsuspecting defender.

Ron Hale
19 Points, 6 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 3 Turnovers, 5 Fouls, 7-12 FG, 4-6 3FG, 1-1 FT

-Hale showed his merit as a shooter today, knocking down a handful of shots from deep.
-Hale has an incredibly quick release at times, and gets the ball off of his hands as well as anyone.
-Hale did some work on the glass tonight, but isn’t the type of player who will be able to do that consistently.

Game Four: Seattle Supersonics, Portland Trailblazers

Seattle

Kevin Durant
28 Points, 3 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 2 Steals, 3 Turnovers, 1 Foul, 8-19 FG, 1-6 3FG, 11-13 FT

Jeff Green
32 Points, 13 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 2 Steals, 5 Turnovers, 1 Foul, 10-18 FG, 2-4 3FG, 10-14 FT

-Green played one of the best games of the Summer League today, hitting uncharacteristically deep shots from the perimeter and getting inside for easy baskets.
-Green really made a statement with his ballhandling ability, looking better off the dribble than he has in recent games.
-Green showed a very solid midrange jump shot, and will really make an impact in Seattle if he can shoot like this consistently.

Joel Freeland
12 Points, 5 Rebounds, 1 Turnover, 3 Fouls, 6-13 FG, 0-2 FT

-Freeland played well today, getting his fair share of baskets down low.

Stefano Mancinelli
12 Points, 1 Assist, 2 Steals, 5 Fouls, 4-11 FG, 2-7 3FG, 2-2 FT

-Mancinelli won’t stuff the stat sheet, but he’ll do all the little things to help his team win.
-Mancinelli did come up big in the clutch, hitting a three-pointer late in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
-Mancinelli has solid form, but is still working towards making shots from the perimeter consistently.

Martell Webster
16 Points, 4 Rebounds, 1 Steal, 1 Turnover, 5 Fouls, 6-10 FG, 4-7 3FG

-Webster’s stroke looked great today, and he showed tremendous range.
-Webster really seems to have become more versatile, doing a lot of things that he wasn’t doing last season.
-Webster also looks to be in better shape, showing an improved vertical leap and commitment to running the floor.

Sergio Rodriguez
7 Points, 2 Rebounds, 7 Assists, 1 Steal, 3 Turnovers, 1-3 FG, 5-5 FT

-Rodriguez played a steady game today, but didn’t do anything really spectacular.
