Game One: San Antonio Spurs , Minnesota Timberwolves San Antonio SpursJackie Butler
11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 turnovers, 4-7 FG, 3-4 FT
had another nice performance here in Vegas, showing off his nice post touch along with a newly developed mid-to-long range jumper, which he hit on a few occasions here today.
-Butler shows a good feel for the game in the post, not often forcing the issue and finishing with good touch on simple moves like hook shots and turnaround jumpers.
-Butler also showed good court vision yet again here today, making a few nice kickouts for assists, along with other nice passes that his teammates bobbled, leading to a turnover.Marcus Williams
7 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 turnovers, 1 steal, 2-10 FG, 3-4 FT
had another tough game here, not really playing to his strengths and failing to get his mid-range game working consistently, something he should have a lot of trouble with initially against this higher level of competition.
-Rather than focusing on hitting spot-up shots and making cuts to the rim, two things Williams would be able to consistently contribute right now, hes been mostly putting the ball on the floor and settling for off-balanced, fade-away mid-range jumpers, often failing to keep his legs underneath him on his shot attempts.
-Williams did do a good job attacking the rim in transition here, going strong to the hole and scoring around the basket or getting to the line, but he didnt have the same success in the halfcourt.C.J. Watson
5 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2-9 FG, 1-2 3PT
-C.J. Watson had a tough game here, missing on a large number of spot-up shots from outside, and not being able to do much else for his team.
-He didnt force the issue, though, and he made a few assists within the flow of the offense, but all in all, this wasnt a good showing for Watson.Minnesota TimberwolvesRandy Foye
22 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 8-19 FG, 3-5 3PT, 3-3 FT
had an up-and-down game, at times looking spectacular pulling up from inside and outside the three-point line, but at other times not getting his shot to fall.
-Most of Foyes shot attempts came from outside 15 feet, but he did have one nice floater in the lane on one occasion.
-Foye didnt do a great job creating offense for his teammates, most of the time looking for his own shot, but he did keep his teams offense flowing relatively well, given the bulk of shots he attempted.Corey Brewer
8 points, 13 rebounds, 1 block, 3 turnovers, 1-10 FG, 0-2 3PT, 6-6 FT
had a pretty non-descript game here, missing on quite a few pull-up jumpers from around the 18 foot range, and not getting much else going on the offensive end.
-Brewer put the ball on the floor a few times, and didnt look very uncomfortable dribbling in the halfcourt, not getting into much trouble with the ball, but he wasnt able to consistently create good shot attempts.
-The one area Brewer did have a major impact on the game was rebounding the ball, using his length and athleticism to attack the boards from out of position all game, pulling in 13 rebounds on the game.
-Brewer also showed off his potential a bit on the defensive end, easily blocking one perimeter shot with his length, and playing solid defense throughout.Rashad McCants
17 points, 5-9 FG, 1-3 3PT, 6-6 FT
had a good overall game, scoring in bursts throughout and showing off his offensive versatility.
-McCants scored by taking the ball strong to the hole on cuts, and also by getting out in transition.
-McCants also hit one three-pointer on the game, as well as a pull-up jumper from 20 feet out.
-Defensively, McCants played pretty solid man-to-man defense, moving his feet and staying in front of his man.Craig Smith
21 points, 4 rebounds, 3 turnovers, 7-12 FG, 7-9 FT
had a strong game, showing off his skills in the high and low post, using his explosiveness to beat his man at will.
-Smith scored on hook shots in the post with both hands, as well as on one-dribble drives from around 10 feet out, going up strong and getting to the line.
-Smith also was attacking the offensive glass, but overall did not have his usual impact on the boards, only pulling down four.Game Two: Washington Wizards , Detroit Pistons Washington WizardsNick Young
20 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 turnover, 8-16 FG, 0-3 3PT, 4-4 FT
did a much better job here in his second game of the week, finally getting his mid-range game going, and showing off some of his explosive athleticism on drives to the basket.
-Young hit on a handful of pull-up shots from 15-20 feet, including one very impressive turnaround jumper from 15 feet out that he exhibited excellent body control and form on.
-Young also made quite a few crowd-pleasing dunks, taking off from far away from the basket and going up with height and power to slam the ball down.
-Most of Youngs scores around the basket came in transition, though, as even though he did a good job getting to the hoop in the halfcourt, he wasnt able to finish at the hoop on most occasions.Dominic McGuire
12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 turnover, 4-8 FG, 2-2 3PT, 2-2 FT
had another solid game here, hitting a pair of spot-up three-pointers and attacking the rim strong on his drives.
-McGuire scored on a left-handed lay-up off a left-handed drive, a dropstep going to his left in the post, and drew a foul on another left-handed drive.
-McGuire also made some nice passes within the flow of the offense, hitting cutters and making kickouts when the lane wasnt there on his drives.Oleksiy Pecherov
12 points, 7 rebounds, 4 turnovers, 5-11 FG, 1-2 3PT, 1-2 FT
-Pecherov had a decent game here, showing off his range by hitting on some outside shots, including one nice pull-up jumper from 18 feet out.
-Pecherov tried putting the ball on the floor a bit this game, but he looked pretty slow-footed when trying to get past his man with his first step, not succeeding when he went away from his pull-up jumper.
-Pecherov also did a good job on the boards, using his size and boxing out pretty well.Detroit PistonsJason Maxiell
21 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 turnovers, 8-16 FG, 5-6 FT
had a pretty good game here, even though he hasnt been his usual dominant self on the boards and weakside defense of late.
-Maxiell has continued to improve with his post and mid-range offense, though, sporting a nice array of moves in the post along with a mid-range jumper with range out to 18 feet.
-Maxiell scored in the post mostly with turnaround jumpers, and got his other points on cuts or in transition, usually dunking the ball powerfully.Rodney Stuckey
17 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 turnovers, 6-14 FG, 0-2 3PT, 5-5 FT
didnt have as good a game here as he did yesterday, not getting hot with his outside shot in this game.
-Still, Stuckey played a solid overall game, hitting some pull-up shots from the 10-15 feet range and scoring around the hoop on floaters and scoop shots, showing off some nice creativity and adjustment ability.
-Stuckey isnt a pure point guard, though he did have some nick kick-out assists on drive-and-dishes, and passed the ball well in transition.Arron Afflalo
21 points, 3 rebounds, 2 turnovers, 3-8 FG, 0-1 3PT, 15-17 FT
had another solid game, attacking the rim strong both in the halfcourt and transition, using his craftiness and intelligent play to consistently get in the lane.
-Afflalos outside shot wasnt falling much again here, but he did draw fouls on two long jumpers, one of which he hit for the and-1.
-Afflalo played solid defense throughout, including some intense pressure defense at times.Cheikh Samb
2 points, 6 rebounds, 1 turnover, 1-2 FG
-Cheikh Samb didnt have the most impactful game, but he showed more flashes of potential, hitting a nice bank shot from 10 feet out.
-Samb also made a nice transition block that he wasnt credited for where he exhibited very good timing, along with a steal on a post entry pass that he used his great length to poke away.
-Samb attacked the glass frequently today, but struggled a bit with post defense, lacking fundamentals and having a very high center of gravity that allows him to get pushed around.Game Three: Phoenix Suns , Philadelphia 76ers Phoenix SunsD.J. Strawberry
19 points, 2 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals, 2 turnovers, 8-17 FG, 0-2 3PT, 3-5 FT
had a pretty strong showing here, especially on the defensive end, where he was constantly hounding Louis Williams
when the two matched up, obviously bothering him with his physicality, forcing him into turnovers, and making him beat him with tough shots from outside.
-Strawberry played the point most of the game for the Suns, and did a good job keeping his teammates involved, not being hampered by his ball-handling abilities, and dishing out some nice assists throughout the game.
-Strawberry attacked the basket strong, showing off some very nice hesitation moves and explosiveness to get by his man and through the defense, attacking the basket strong and finishing at the rim.
-Strawberry also got out and finished in transition, something hes known for doing, though his mid and long-range jump shot werent really falling for him in the halfcourt.
-Strawberry started forcing things late in the game, going to isolation plays when the game was very close down the stretch, and he wasnt able to finish on any of those possessions.Alando Tucker
29 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 turnovers, 10-19 FG, 1-2 3PT, 8-10 FT
had a very strong showing here, showing great confidence with all aspects of his scoring, hitting a large assortment of pull-up jumpers from the mid-range.
-Tucker also hit on some spot-up shots from deep, and his handle looked good on his drives to the basket, where he finished strong with either hand.
-Tucker also got out in transition well, scoring on a few lay-ups there.
-Tucker made some nice passes within the flow of the offense, including kick-outs for three-pointers and dump-offs near the basket.Otis George
20 points, 6 rebounds, 2 turnovers, 8-12 FG, 1-2 3PT, 3-4 FT
made some nice contributions for the Suns in this game, doing what he does best, hitting spot-up jumpers.
-Aside from hitting a variety of jumpers from the 15-20 foot range, George also got out and finished in transition, getting to the line when he didnt.
-George didnt make much of an impact elsewhere, though, but holding his own with rebounding and post defense.Melvin Sanders
17 points, 2 rebounds, 6-11 FG, 2-5 3PT, 3-3 FT
-Melvin Sanders came out of the gates hot, hitting three spot-up shots from deep in a relatively short period, but cooled off as the game went on.
-After that, Sanders scored on a nice cut to the basket and a strong lay-up for an and-1 in transition, but was mostly a non-factor otherwise.Philadelphia 76ersLouis Williams
23 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, 9 turnovers, 7-11 FG, 0-2 3PT, 9-10 FT
had an up-and-down game here, struggling to get into a flow when matched with the physical D.J. Strawberry
, and committing a lot of turnovers as a result.
-Williams did manage to still score 23 points, though, hitting on tough pull-up jumpers from outside and using high screens and fancy dribbling to penetrate the opposing defense.
-Williams was finding a lot of open jumpers for his teammates when passing the ball, though they werent always converted.Rodney Carney
19 points, 7-13 FG, 1-2 3PT, 4-4 FT
had another pretty good game here, hitting on spot-up and pull-up jumpers from outside, and continuing to show a much better handle on the ball with his mid-range game than weve seen in the past.
-Carney had gotten more comfortable as the week has gone on with creating his own scoring, and that was the case again here today.
-Carney also got some of his typical strong finishes in transition on plays where he ran the break well.
-The only thing to really take issue with Carneys play here has been his lack of notable contributions aside from scoring.Thaddeus Young
20 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals, 5 turnovers, 8-16 FG, 2-4 3PT, 2-2 FT
had his best game of the camp here today, hitting on an assortment of spot-up three-pointers and long two-pointers, finally finding his shooting touch.
-Young also attacked the boards very well, something that can be a great strength for him from the small forward position, getting a few putback tip-ins in this manners.
-Young got into some bad habits at times by overdribbling with the ball and trying to force his shot, but for the most part he played a contained game.Jason Smith
11 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 turnovers, 4-9 FG, 3-4 FT
didnt have a bad game, but hes struggled to get into an offensive flow all week, hitting on about half of his shots from the 15-18 foot range here today.
-Smith also hasnt looked very comfortable when going to the face-up game, not doing a good job getting by his man or creating good shot attempts.
-Smith also didnt have much of an impact on the boards here today, which is something that hell need to do to complement his scoring game, which also has yet to come around.Louis Amundson
13 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, 3 turnovers, 5-6 FG, 3-9 FT
returned from injury to put up a nice showing here, doing all the things he does best.
-Amundson brought hustle and scored mostly on cuts to the basket where he either finished strong or showed nice touch when he had to go to a finesse move.
-Amundson was always around the boards here, even though he didnt officially pull in that many rebounds, and Amundson also made some athletic blocks in the lane on the defensive end.Game Five: Boston Celtics , Team China Boston CelticsGerald Green
10 points, 2 rebounds, 1 block, 3 turnovers, 2-10 FG, 0-3 3PT, 6-10 FT
didnt have a very good game here, struggling to convert on his mid and long-range jumpers, hitting just one pull-up jumper from 10 feet on the game, to go along with a transition jam for his only two field goals.
-Green got most of his scoring by attacking the rim in the halfcourt, using his creativity and athleticism to get to the rim and draw a foul, something he did going with both his left and right hand.
-Green also made a bit of an impact on the defensive end, blocking a shot on the perimeter with his athleticism and length, and altering a few others just by the threat of his athleticism.Leon Powe
23 points, 12 rebounds, 7-9 FG, 9-12 FT
had a simple, yet very efficient game, bulling his way around in the painted area, scoring on lay-ups off cuts, putbacks, and by drawing fouls on simple plays near the basket.
-Powe really put his body to use on the glass, pushing around anyone who got in his way and really pursuing rebounds.
-Powe hit on one right-handed hook shot in the game, but most of his other field goals were simple, uncontested ones right at the basket.Rajon Rondo
12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 turnovers, 5-10 FG, 2-4 FT
started the game off nicely, hitting on a right-handed floater off a pretty crossover drive, followed by a smooth pull-up jumper from 15 feet out, followed by yet another floater in the lane.
-Rondo cooled off after that, mostly getting his scores or getting to the line in transition, not doing much more creating in the halfcourt.
-Rondo made a few nice passes on the game, pushing the ball ahead in transition, but for the most part just quietly ran his teams offense and let the rest of his team do the work.Glen Davis
10 points, 11 rebounds, 6 turnovers, 3-5 FG, 4-6 FT
had an up-and-down game, doing very well putting his body to use in attacking the boards, but struggling with his scoring game, committing a lot of turnovers trying to get his offense going.
-Davis got most of his scoring on put-backs, but did hit one spot-up 15 foot jumper early in the game.
-Davis looked out of sorts at times trying to defend the post, not using much in terms of fundamentals to force his opponent into tough shot attempts.Team ChinaYi Jianlian
7 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, 3 turnovers, 1-5 FG, 5-6 FT
had a pretty rough go of things for the second day in a row, struggling to translate his scoring abilities to this setting, specifically in the post.
-Yi is lacking in both footwork and instincts in the post at this stage, traveling with the ball and using complicated moves in situations when simpler ones will do, not really showing much in terms of instincts.
-Yi couldnt get much going with his face-up game either, as his ball-handling isnt yet ready for this competition.
-Yi didnt try to do much from the perimeter in this game, not taking any jump shots outside the painted area.
-Defensively, Yi struggled greatly in man-to-man defense, lacking in fundamentals in both the post and the perimeter.
-One thing Yi did do pretty well is contesting shots on the weakside, using his length and size to his advantage and swatting two shots in the contest.
