Halperin has emerge this season as up-and-coming Euroleague star. He has really poweful skill set, but it is question how much potential he has left and therfor will he be any good at NBA level due to his athletic ability...
Being a Nets fan, seeing a Best Case Scenario of Zoran Planinic is not very encouraging.
I'm still pulling for Z though.

very old profile...most people compare him to Sasha Vujacic, Jon Barry or someone like that. If you want to get crazy there are parts of his game that remind a bit of Manu, but without the superb athleticism.

Jon Barry is significantly quicker than Halperin IMO. Vujacic might be a better comparation. I wouldn't mention Manu here at all. Ok, Halperin is has a nice drive and they share some passing skills, but still they are too different. Manu is all passion, he's extremely intense on both ends of the court, and as you've said, much more athletic. Halperin is probably a better shooter, that's it. I don't really see him succeeding in the NBA, but you never know.

Halperin has so many skills it hurts... and it especially hurts seeing not using them not even close to 100%, and that's when you get to his biggest issue, his head.
Not sure if it's a common mental (un-)toughness, total lack of killer instinct or just trying to play pure team ball where noone would step forward.
He is quite unpredictable in offense with his versatility and large set of skills, great in traffic, good shooter with not so ideal shooting mechanism, great with penetrations after P&R ussually finishes them off with "Navarro's bomb"... all in one extremelly talented player wih issues in his head. if he'll manage to sort them out than I think he could be one of the best players in euroleague, while as for NBA as you said he may lack athleticism, an inch or two... and definately agressiveness... he is too nice, he would let the ball circle and wouldn't even take up a shot if not neccesary... most players lack of this "virtue" nowadays, but with Halperin it gets to a point when it becomes annoying...
as for comparisons... Vujacic is far less talented than Halperin, which is btw. also a lot more versatile, I'd say smaller Jaric with quite some unused potential...

I think that one of the biggest diferences between Vujacic and Halperin is that the Slovenian plays the game with much more passion than the Israeli (at least when he was back in Italy). Sasha was a very active player, and you could feel his presence on court everytime he touched the ball. Halperin is more of a cold guy.
I would like him to be drafted by the Suns, then maybe San-Antonio, otherwise to stay at Europe.
Not because Phinix is my favorite NBA team, but because of their team-unselfish-game, the atmosphere where every player feel comfortable to take shoot, their strong leader (Nash), the European coach (it reflects stroglly their game).
You mention that he plays without passion.
As It seems to me, it is not as a result of apathy, but because he is introverted, and afraid of making mistakes.
-You so him latly more them me, but as I rememer him, after he makes a mistake, he looses confidence, and as a result stops taking shots and sometimes makes more mistakes one after another(Does it still heppen?). But when he sudenlly caches confinense he is unstopable- making shots and assists one after another.
-When he played at the 2004 final (Maccabi v Bolonia) most of the game (Sarunas had many fouls, he had a solid game, and maccabi had a huge lead, so he stayed on the court) he looked cold, and showed no emotions. But after the game ended he had some nerve reaction, I don't know what it was exectly, but he layed on the floor, making strang movements.
I hope that with the time and expiriance he'll do things more atomathecly and instinctivlly, and his over-self-controll will be released.

I think this is not happening; at least, not as much as in the past (I haven't seen him that much, and other guys could tell you better about it). In Olimpija there's nowhere near as much pressure as in Maccabi. He's one of the team leaders there (if not THE leader), and I think it's reflected in his confidence on court.

what about halperin(olimpia)?
i think his performances and stability in the adriatic makes him a middle second round at least.

ussually that would be true, but this season Olimpija's players and especially the coach Grdovic were almost crucified because of their pathetic games untill Sagadin stepped in, that pressure still probably wasn't as high as in Maccabi, but I'd say it wasn't really far from it at one point.
Halperin benefits from playing time- plain and simple, while he is way too inconsistant to be the clear leader of the team...
