Before the season, there was plenty of talk about the new Big East being too big. Coaches complained about the unbalanced schedule, and how worth teams could easily get left out of the conference tournament. But as we hit the midway point in the new Big East’s inaugural season, the fan really couldn’t ask for a better brand of basketball. We have three legitimate national championship hopefuls, at least seven NCAA tournament-caliber teams, and (most importantly) super-competitive, fun-to-watch games on a nightly basis. Louisville and Notre Dame actually might end up missing the Big East Tournament. We have yet to see how many bids the selection committee will give a 16 team conference.. But from a fan’s perspective, the new Big East is about as good as it gets.

The following is a roundup of what has caught my eye in the first half of the Big East slate.

Watch out for Georgetown .... my sleeper for the elite 8 this year .... if Green and Hibert don't come out this year then next year will be the official come back tour of a once dominant Hoyas program ..... they needed the Thompson blood back on the bench .... lightning quick gaurds and a 7' center and that doesn't even include there best player IMO Green

Would rather see this conference in two divisions so all teams play home and home with division rivals. This format allows less losses to good teams within the conference and creates better records than Big 10 or Big 12.

I freaking love the Big East. Every game is so hard fought and almost always goes down to the wire. Anyone can beat anyone on any given night. So many great college players and coaches and great NBA prospects, it's been one of the highlights of the NCAA seaosn for me so far.

Awesome article too BTW.
