Automatically eligible since he committed to Western Carolina and practiced with them for some time before deciding to leave. The NCAA gave him a year and a half suspension because of the fact that he played in Europe for money I guess. They really dont want international players playing here as much as before.

It's a complete mistery why Demirel went to the NCAA. Everybody knew that he had played in Tofas Bursa and that he wouldn't be allowed to play college for a while. Besides, as shocking was to see him choosing such a small college as Western Carolina (it is a small program, isn't it?).

Very small. But they had a Turkish assistant coach there, which is why he chose it. I believe there is another Turkish player there too. It was either there or NC State to play next to Atsur, but I guess he wanted a lot of playing time.

The fact that Kevin Martin (Sacramento Kings) from that same school just got drafted that year in the 1st round helped I am sure.

Ok, now I see some logic there.
