Well I think we should get another college coach so my pick would be Jim Boeheim since he was on the staff of this years team, plus he is a good coach.
Looking at the roster here would be my 12 guys if they would accept:
Dwight Howard, Greg Oden, Al Jefferson, Amare Stoudamire, Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Brandon Roy, Kevin Martin, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, and Devin Harris.
Of course there is a probably a few rookies who would be done with their second year in the league in summer of 2010 that may make some noise and break in there and some of the veterans that won't want to come back (like a 34 year old kobe in 2012), but i am sure they will make the players make a 3 year commitment again so the team should be pretty much set by 2010.

im sure players like melo and wade will get invited back to the training camp in 2009 at the start of everything
but i like seeing some new faces
and in fiba its all about team basketball and this goup could easily get it done and bring back the gold

Brandon Roy would be an excellent fit as he's such a good team player and could play SG or SF, if G-OD is being included then Rose and Beasley could come into it also. Paul would be the energy guy off the bench if they want a larger starting PG and if they keep LeBron at SF then STAT could play 4 with Howard and G-OD at 5.
Kobe may well decide to call his US career quits now but could always make himself available for 2012 if he was needed. KG also is said to like London when he played there last year and is a big football fan so could fancy a chance to play again. But going younger makes sense as the veteran's teams would not particularly want them to play extra games.
Is Coach K staying on as he'll be 65 by 2012 or will Colangelo look for a younger Coach?

coach k has said he is going to help colangelo in a overseer type role like colangelo is GM he will be assistant GM. he is not going to coach in any capacity. names that have been linked to be the next coach are: from NBA greg poppovich, jerry sloan, mike dantoni, phil jackson, nate mcmillan and NCAA Tubby Smith, Rick Pitino, Tom Izzo, Roy Williams, Billy Donovan, Jim Boeheim.

Coach MacMillan would be a good choice being a disciplinarian type and obviously D'Antoni as he was an assistant to Coach K and has worked with Colangelo before. The other guys are older but might be good choices as they may not still be NBA Coaches come 2010-2012 and may prefer a smaller role.
Also taking a top College Coach can make sense as NBA organizations may not want to release their Head Coaches or have them distracted from their main job and a college coach with a much lighter playing schedule can spend more time concentrating on the job in his off season.

Watching this team play (and watching Duke "play" since 2005), it is clear that this was very much D'Antoni's team. There is no way around it.
The key to the "Redeem Team," just as is the key to any D'Antoni-coached team, is that you must have an assistant coach that understands how to orchestrate defense and beat defenses. McMillan is a versatile defensive strategist and Boeheim is the wizard of zone. I would consider adding a guy like Theus to the bench, too, assuming that they want and need a third assistant coach.
Poppovich would be a good coach, but I'm wondering whether or not he would be interested in this commitment. He's famous for taking off-seasons off and valuing his personal time.
Sloan as a coach would be equal to Brown as a coach. Both men have tremendous egos and a specific system that does not translate to a superstar setting.
And did anybody else think that Team USA's scouting absolutely sucked?

D'Antoni and MacMillan would make a good duo as one does offence and the other could do the defence side. Players would like playing for D'Antoni as he would get them playing attractive ball and MacMillan would be great working on the defensive zones and getting the tactical match ups sorted out.
If D'Antoni got the job then I'd think he'd like CP as his starting PG as at Phoenix everything went through Nash whilst MacMillan is known to favour the taller PG and might use Deron Williams if Derrick Rose wasn't the finished product by then.
Coach Poppovich does like his off season and is a known wine connoisseur and at this stage of his career would probably not want or need to be attached to Team USA. Sloan likewise who is still chasing the elusive title would probably not want or need to take on an additional job. Coach Jackson also has done it all and might only consider it if he retired from the Lakers or unless Kobe made a big pull to get him involved.
Jim Boeheim who is also near retirement age might also consider taking on the role if offered it as he winds down his NCAA coaching career. Tubby Smith having changed jobs last year might want to restablish his college team first before looking at any other responsibilities.
Also Bryan Colangelo not having any major NBA role now is an ideal person to oversee the team until the next World Championships with Coach K as his Assistant GM or GM to his VP etc. Then maybe Coach K takes over the Colangelo role and the scouting problem can be sorted by bringing in the owner of the thickest file in the NBA - Kevin Pritchard.
Pritchard would certainly get the scouting sorted even if he wasn't involved that much himself.

the scouting was done by the duke assistants chris collins and steve wojiechowski.
The ESPN the Magazine I got in the mail yesterday said Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul and Deron Williams want to give it another go in 2012 and the likely newcomers look to be Al Horford, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, Rodney Stuckey, and Lemarcus Aldridge.

Yeah and the scouting was terrible.
The USA won the gold by relying on what has always been its trademark: strong pressure defense supported by superior athleticism.
It lacked quite a bit of creativity on offense and ball movement and giving up more than 100 to Spain was another low-point.
That said, I don't believe they regained the "unbeatable" status, even though there was so much pressure to do it. Considering a more "laidback" setting, I believe we should expect an exciting 2010, with much more chances of an upset.
