I heard from Milenko Tepic that it is true that Ersan Ilyasova is really born in 1984. He said that the Turkish U18 NT coach told him that he does not like llyasova and that he would not want to have him on his team because he is not 1987 he is 1984. Does anyone have any more details on this? This has to drastically hurt his overall potential.

i hope he joins the rising young Bucks next year after spending basically the entire season with their d-league affiliate.
he has been starting down at the d-league, getting a few points (and threes) and boards and hopefully he can show the NBA what he has got.
He was a 1st round prospect at one stage, slipping a little to no.36 but the bucks are probably an ideal team for a youngster like him.

That could be real. I read a text 2 years ago, where was also stand that he is not from Turkey. But who knows if this is true. But why should such things come to the media if he were an native of turkey?

yea he played well in the d-league last year. i think they will probably keep him up on the bucks next year, but i don't really know how much he will play. initially i see him behind simmons and noel at the SF spot

milwalkee was looking to bring in some wings that are athletic and can defend for next year and ilysova is pretty athletic plus he can shoot the ball. he still has enormous potential at only 19.

i think initially david noel gets the nod over him because he is an athletic freak, plays really hard and is a good defender, can rebound the ball, and doesn't really have an offensive game. so i think he fits their need of a roleplaying athletic defender better than illysova

in the long run though i think illysova will be a better pro than noel

Big suprise is waiting for Bucks fan. There is under 20 Europe Championship in Turkey during this days.Turkey and serbia m. have reached the Final. They ll meet tonight and i must say i have very impressed from Ersan İlyasova.Almost every match he made double double. He can make shoot, assitt, rebound.i knew him from ulker. He has been progressing so fastly in one year..His style likes Krilenko. Not enough yet but he can take important minutes there.

Thanks, xtf. I hope Ilyasova gets to learn under Kukoc another year or two in Milwaukee. He, Bogut and Villanueva will make a great frontcourt in the future.

how you can axcept a fake player?i really don't want to see things like that.somebody has to check it and punish this.imagine players 87 born how they feel looking ersan taking their positions.is not fair and this has to stop.

Nobody is certain whether he is 1987 or 1984. You cannot call him a fake player if you are not 100% certain, because it is more likely that he is 1987 than he is 1984 if his whole country lets him play with the 1987s. Apparently the doctors and trainers say his body looks more like a 19 year olds than a 22 year olds, but who knows.

don't lie to yourselfs.i think everybody is 99% that he is 1984 borned.i heard it also from one player inside the U20 national Turkish team.every 6'9 forward international prospect like Dragovic,Manolopoulos,Dilys, kalve is still thin slow not so mature and they haven't complete yet their game.you can see easily that he can't improve his game more than the other players

Yeah, he has really stepped up and shown that he is capable of leading his team despite not being recognized as a first or even second option. When he plays it is clear that he is on a different level maturity wise than most of the other guys his age (no matter what age people think he is) in the tourney.

Turkey is already known for changing data of players supposed to help the country basketball-wise.There was a story, that mentioned Uzbeki Arsen Ilyasov leaving Uzebkistan and one month later has been registered by a turkish man as his son named "Ersan Ilyasova" in a turkish city. The man simply "forgot" to register his 15-year old son....the FIBA believed the Turkish Basketball Federation and allowed Ersan to participate in all junior competitions....thats what I call basketball mafia, FIBA is known to me for strange decisions (like those dubious wild-cards...).
Some nice examples of "turkish" basketball talent:
Hedo Turkoglu - Hidayet Turkovic (Serbia)
Mirsad Turkcan - Jahovic (Serbia)
Asim Pars -Pescanovic (Bosnia)
Ermal Kurtoglu -Kuqo (Kosovo)
Aziz Bekir - Adis Beciragic (Bosnia)
Nedim Dal - Dalic (Bosnia)
Zaza Enden - Eladze (Georgia)
Selin Saygin - Sava... (Kazakhstan)
Ulug Kacaniku - Yll Kacaniku (Kosovo)
Vedat Koruk - Vitali Skripov (Ukraina)
Mert Ozgur - Maksim Otbozin (Turkmenistan)
Deniz Gokay- Dmitri Glinski (Uzbekistan)

Other countries like Qatar (at least 80% of the team are originally from Africa), Bahrain (recently gave passports to Nigerian junior national players) or Saudi Arabia (always has been known in the sports world to import arabs and africans to compete for the country)do this for years.

Unfortunatelly Turkey has become like Qatar.

Ilyasov is from Uzbekistan (x-CCCP country), he is a good young player but he has many problems withs his knees (two surgeries)

I thought it was his ankles that he has had problems with?

Regardless I think he'll be a solid pro. The rumor of the week is that Toronto wanted him included in the Ford-Villanueva swap but the bucks wouldn't budge. I think it will be interesting next off-season when he becomes a free agent if they try once again to steal him from the Bucks.

Turkey has never had bad reputation of changing player datas. Turkish basketball has produced many basketball talents, and some of them playing in the NBA, and they're pretty successful. Not at all-star level, but some of them are solid. So saying Turkish Basketball Federation is manipulating some things is just "Unfair". Turkish team deserved wild card and showed this with 6th place in World Championships (with a roster without their NBA players). You cannot reach this accomplishment with fake players.
Players from other nationality is not an uncommon thing in Europe. Remember Gregor Fucka (who is Slovenian) of Italy, or Jake Tsakalidis (Georgian) of Greece, Marko Pesic (Serbian) of Germany, Chuck Kornegay (USA) of Spain, Ariel McDonald (USA) of Slovenia, Derrick Sharp (USA) of Israel, Ademola Okalaja (Nigerian) of Germany, Terrell Ray Castle (USA) of Bosnia Herzegovina, Ntousan Sakota (Serbian) of Greece, there are many players like this. Remember Stojakovic, who also had a Greece citizenship, had chosed to play for Serbia in very last minute (Euro 97).
With your point of view, even Dirk Nowitzki is not German.. He's from Poland! Also, speaking of Hidayet Turkoglu, his family is from Macedonia, but he was born and raised in Istanbul. He is a certain product of Turkish teams and coaches. Ermal Kuqo and Mirsad Turkcan, also Atlanta Hawks' Zaza Pachulia came to Turkey when they were nearly 14-15 years old to get better chance to learn basketball. And they became success stories.
When it comes to Ersan Ilyasova, he's from Ozbekistan, and some sources say he's actually born in 1984. I think this may be right, because his citizenship seems somewhat tricky for me. Also he has only played in one under-20 competition for Turkey, and won the MVP award. But who cares? This guy has potential, and has a shot to become a solid player in NBA.
