One of the top automatically eligible players in attendances here, Mateusz Ponitka had a solid yet unspectacular week here. He moves well off the ball, can create in a straight line, and knocks down open shots with solid aggressiveness. His ball-handling remains a work in progress, and he lacks a degree of size, explosiveness or shooting range to be considered a top-level NBA prospect, but was clearly one of the best wing players in Treviso.

Mateusz Ponitka is right behind Diez, coming off a tremendous end to the season in the Belgian league, culminating in a championship that he just won today. Ponitka shot 47% for 3 in the last two months of the season, including some big outings in the playoffs. He's been scoring at a great clip all season (22 points per-40), while doing so in an extremely efficient manner (62% TS%). The fact that he's 6-6, and a fairly solid athlete, gives him a chance to get drafted when considering how well he's performed this season. Having a strong showing in Treviso would go a long way.

-Polish wing Mateusz Ponitka could not get anything going at the EUROCAMP, looking a bit out of place. After a strong showing at the Hoop Summit last year, Ponitka couldn't find the same groove that caught the attention of scouts in Portland.

After flying a bit under the radar during the practice session at the 2011 Nike Hoops Summit, Polish wing Mateusz Ponitka had a solid showing in the loss to team USA, finishing as the World Team's leading scorer with 17 points on 7-13 from the field in 25 minutes of play. He played with great confidence and didn't look to be intimidated at all by the physical talents of the USA players.

This was consistent with what we saw from him all week in drills and scrimmages, as he seems to be a very tough, competitive player. This is a big help for him defensively, but his lack of lateral quickness on the wing was evident during the game as he was beaten off the dribble pretty badly on occasions by Team USA.

Ponitka's shot is pretty flat and has some sidespin, but he shoots the ball confidently and showed the ability to knock down shots off the catch and off the dribble with range out past the 3-point line. He also displayed good scoring instincts and the ability to score some in the mid-range. His lack of elevation hinders his ability to score at the rim, however, and some of his game off the bounce would likely be limited if playing regularly against higher level athletes. He didn't show much in the way of creating for others or advanced ball-handling, and he didn't look to do much to set up his teammates, as he plays primarily with a scorer's mentality.

Ponitka plays in the Polish second division at the moment, on an academy team composed of young players. His options for next year include playing in the NCAA or signing with a big team in Europe. How he's able to translate his scoring prowess to a higher level of competition will likely tell us quite a bit about the extent of his potential, as there are some question marks about just how far his physical tools can carry him.

The go-to guy on a very surprising Polish team, Mateusz Ponitka was one of the tournament's top scorers and overall best performers.

6-5, with a skinny frame and good but not great athleticism, Ponitka doesn't wow you on first glance with his physical profile. He does tend to grow on you, though, especially when you see how skilled and aggressive he is from the perimeter.

Excellent in transition, highly efficient in the half-court, and capable of getting his own shot in a variety of ways, Ponitka is a dangerous offensive weapon who has made major strides in his game as of late. He can make shots from the perimeter at a high rate—even if he gets streaky from time to time—and gets to the free throw line at an excellent rate. He is also capable of passing the ball and doesn't force shots, which is impressive considering his scoring prowess. He gets his points within the flow of the offense and appears to have a nice feel for the game. He also shows strong anticipation skills in the passing lanes.

Just how much upside Ponitka has at the pro level is still something of a question mark. We'll need to continue to evaluate him over the next few years.
