SPOTLIGHTED GAMES

-WISCONSIN AT OHIO STATE (Big Ten) (***#1 Seed Implications***). A #1 seed could very easily be on the line in this one. Wisconsin won the first meeting, but if Ohio State can equal the score here today I believe it will propel the Buckeyes up onto the #1 seed range. Wisconsin is coming off a loss to Michigan State, but a win on the road against a team like Ohio State would offset it and then some. Both teams are safely in the NCAA and aren’t likely to be seeded any worse than a #2, but this is an excellent tuneup for the NCAA Tournament. Both teams are excellent and it should be a good game.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTED GAMES

-ARIZONA AT ARIZONA STATE (Pac Ten). Arizona State finally ended their losing streak with an upset win over USC their last time out. They’ve played pretty competitively in their last several games, but just couldn’t get over the top and win any of them. On paper they’re terrible, but they could give Arizona a very tough game. Zona won the first meeting in a blowout, but ASU has been playing better and they are at home. Arizona will want to win this in order to avoid a bad RPI loss on their resume.

-LOUISVILLE AT CONNECTICUT (Big East). Louisville has played about as well as anyone in the country their last few games. It’s never easy to win on the road, but if the Cardinals can play like they have been they should be able to pick up yet another road win. Connecticut has been playing better, though. They’ve won four of their last six games, but this would be a big upset if they were to pull it off.

-NORTH CAROLINA AT MARYLAND (ACC). Maryland is really hot right now, and look to be playing their best basketball of the season. They’ve won four in a row, and will be coming into this one with a ton of confidence, so North Carolina really needs to be on upset alert. They are still strong contenders for a #1 seed, and this would be yet another great win on the resume for the Tarheels. It will also get them one game closer to clinching the regular season conference title. Maryland is 7-6 in league play, but they’ve really improved their resume these past few weeks, and a win here would get them within reach of making the pod system.

-HOUSTON AT MEMPHIS (Conference USA). Memphis has been on cruise control ever since conference play began, and things aren’t all that likely to change today. Memphis is still very much in the picture to make the Pod System, but they probably need to win out in order to do it. Houston is a talented team that could give them some trouble, but it would really be a surprise if they ended up upsetting Memphis on the road.

-DUKE AT SAINT JOHN’S. Saint John’s has played some pretty good basketball on their home court, and that’s exactly what they’ll need to do today if they want to pull off the uspet. Duke has won three games in a row since going on a four game losing streak, and seems to be back on pace toward getting a good seed. They don’t want a slip up today because Saint John’s has a bad RPI and it would damage Duke’s resume.

-KENTUCKY AT VANDERBILT (SEC). Kentucky is a solid NCAA team, but there is certainly room for improvement. A quality road win such as this would really improve the value of their resume, because Kentucky has struggled on the road. Vanderbilt won the first meeting between these two, and is a solid NCAA team themselves, but like Kentucky they could use some quality wins to help improve their resume and put them in position to get a much better seed. Expect another intense atmosphere for this one.
