NEWS AND NOTES

-The new bracket projections will be posted late tonight/early tomorrow morning.

HIGHLIGHTED MATCH-UPS

-DAVIDSON AT APPALACHIAN STATE (Southern Conference). These were two of the best teams in the SoCon last year. Davidson appears to be even better this year, but is off to a 1-2 start against div1 teams. They can’t afford too many strikes if they want to make the NCAA Tournament as an at-large. This is a chance for them to pick up a conference road win, and even their div1 record at 2-2, so it’s definitely a game they need to win. Even though it’s early, Davidson needs to have a sense of urgency coming into this one.

-OHIO AT HOLY CROSS. Both teams are unbeaten on the year, and Ohio managed a nice win against New Mexico State in their opener. Holy Cross has a fairly decent win against Hofstra. Even though both teams are off to a good start, it isn’t likely that either will be in a position to get an at-large by the time the year is over, but it’s possible that we’ll see one or both of these teams in the NCAA Tournament via the automatic bid, and if they continue to win, then the at-large will be a possibility.

-WAKE FOREST AT IOWA. Wake is unbeaten on the year, but two of their three wins came against two of the worst teams in div1. Iowa isn’t a great team, but playing them on the road is definitely the toughest challenge for the Demon Deacons so far this season. An OOC road win would be more of a statement that they’re a good team than the competition they’ve been playing.

BUY GAMES

-CAL POLY AT ARIZONA STATE. The rebuilding process is continuing for the Sun Devils. They should continue to improve as the year goes on and can improve to 3-1 with a win today.

-MIDDLE TENNESSEE AT BELMONT. Belmont is off to a great start at 4-2, which includes a win over Alabama. This game is actually their home opener, and it’s one they should win.

-FLORIDA A&M AT CONNECTICUT. UConn can get to 5-1 on the season with a win tonight.

-COASTAL CAROLINA AT HOUTSON. A win gets the Cougars to 6-1 on the year. Their wins haven’t exactly come against quality competition, but they are playing well and could be a force in C-USA.

-COLGATE AT NOTRE DAME. The Irish will improve to 4-2 on the season with a win. They can’t afford too many slipups in out of conference play because for the most part, their schedule is weak between now and when they start Big East play. If a team schedules weak, they better win them all.

-LONG BEACH AT WASHINGTON. Washington ended up losing the semifinal and third place game in the preseason NIT. They should be able to pick up a relatively easy win tonight, though.
