HIGHLIGHTED MATCH-UPS

-ARKANSAS AT AUBURN (SEC). Auburn had been playing well and with so many contributors back from last season they appeared to have quite a bit of potential, but injuries have really hurt the Tigers and wins in conference are not going to be easy to come by. Arkansas is off to a good start, but needs to win this game on the road in order to sustain their credentials.

-WISCONSIN GREEN BAY AT BUTLER (Horizon League). Butler is 14-1 on the season and has already picked up some road wins in conference. They should be able to handle UWGB without too much trouble today.

-WEST VIRGINIA AT LOUISVILLE (Big East). This series is really turning into a great rivalry, and tonight’s game shouldn’t be any less exciting. The Cardinals have quite a bit of potential, but have dropped some games one would expect them to win, including their conference opener against Cincinnati. They now have several players back from injury and should be much better the rest of the year. WVU has struggled some on the road, but for the most part they’ve played well this year and have actually looked much better than Louisville has. It’s a conference game between two teams that need some big wins on their resume, so it should be a good one. It usually is when these two get together.

-CALIFORNIA AT OREGON (Pac Ten). Oregon had really been struggling, but they did manage a huge win on the road against Arizona last week. They’ve also played much better at home than on the road this season, which will give them another advantage tonight. Cal has had a good year, but they don’t have a road win quite like this on their resume yet. They did beat USC on the road last week, but the Trojans don’t appear to be quite as tough as the Ducks, at least not when Oregon is at home.

-STANFORD AT OREGON STATE (Pac Ten). Stanford played well against UCLA and managed to beat USC in the first week of the season, and appears to be much better than Oregon State is. It’s never easy to win on the road, but this is still the kind of game that an NCAA Tournament team should be able to win.

-WASHINGTON STATE AT USC (Pac Ten). USC is 0-2 in league play, and is in danger of falling to 0-3 against a Washington State team that’s already won on the road in hostile environments. USC needs some big wins like this to strengthen their resume, whereas Wazzu is undefeated and appears like they’ll be able to compete for a #1 seed. It should be fun watching USC’s young talent and athleticism go up against Wazzu’s discipline.

-WASHINGTON AT UCLA (Pac Ten). UCLA picked up some big road wins in conference last week, and are now at home for two big games against the Washington schools. Washington is on the outside looking in, but a win against UCLA on the road is the kind of thing that can really boost a team’s resume. They’ve had some very close calls against big teams, so the Huskies can play much better than what their credentials indicate. UCLA is in a race for the league title and a #1 seed, so every game is important to them as well.

-GEORGIA STATE AT VCU (Colonial). It’s always the same story for VCU. Their margin for error is small and they need to take care of business in games like this if they want any sort of shot at all at an at-large bid.

-ILLINOIS AT WISCONSIN. The wheels have really fallen off for the Illini and they are in danger of falling to 8-8 on the year and remaining winless in the Big Ten. Wisconsin is going in the other direction. At 12-2 with some big wins recently, they appear to be improving at a quick rate instead of falling apart at a quick rate like Illinois is.
