DraftExpress: What did you think of your performance in today’s scrimmage?
Edgar Sosa: I think I played pretty good. I hit a couple of deep three pointers, but in the second half I kind of got a little anxious and turned the ball over maybe twice, so I got to tighten up on that. But I’m just out here trying to have fun and play with the guys.
DX: What part of your game do you think you need to work on the most?
ES: As far as preparing myself for college, I think I need to work on my strength, work a little bit on my defense, and my shot selection. I think being a pure point guard in college, you have to know when you’re going to shoot and when you’re not going to shoot, so that’s what I need to learn as far as playing college basketball.
DX: So you expect to step in at a pure point guard role at Louisville next year?
ES: Yeah, I expect to step in as a pure point guard. Coach says I can help them out a little bit in scoring, but I’m not going to have to do too much scoring. I just have to get it to those who score the ball, and just run the team and play defense.
DX: What led to your choosing of Louisville?
ES: Just coach Pitino. He’s a great coach, he prepares everyone to get to the next level, and I know when I get there, I’m going to work my hardest. So if I want to play in the NBA, he’s the right coach for me.
DX: How do you think his (Rick Pitino’s) experience at the NBA and NCAA levels will help you?
ES: Because he knows what NBA players are capable of and he knows what it takes to get to the NBA. I’m just going to go out there hoping that he pushes me everyday. I’m gonna push myself, and maybe I can get to that level if I work hard enough.

Edgar Sosa had a decent game, making more good passes then the assist numbers suggest, though forcing the issue with his outside shot a bit. Most of his outside shots came from pulling up early in the possession, and although he hit two of them, one from NBA range, we would’ve liked to see him initiate the offense more instead. Sosa was more effective when he was getting into the lane, either finishing himself or dishing the ball off to a teammate for an open shot. Sosa takes contact especially well once in the lane, possessing good body control and often being able to put up a high percentage after drawing contact. Sosa has a tendency to occasionally get stuck in the lane, though, picking up his dribble and drawing a double team that he needs to get bailed out of by a teammate. This is something he needs to work on. When Sosa wasn’t pulling up for long 3-pointers, he did well running the team’s offense in these game, creating a lot of open shots through drive-and-dishes, feeding the post, or just making a smart pass to a teammate open on the perimeter. He may have been forcing things here because of the nature of the game, but if he plays a bit more under control, he should be able to step in and contribute for Louisville immediately next year.

Edgar Sosa had a very nice game, showing a nice combination of outside shooting, point guard skills, and the ability to get to the hole and score himself. Sosa hit two threes in the contest, one of which was from NBA range, to go along with one missed attempt on a pull-up shot. Sosa made two attacks on the basket in the scrimmage, drawing a foul both times, one of which was on a nice up-and-under attempt. He also made one drive-and-dish to a passing cutter. In transition, Sosa made two assists to go along with a few other passes, one of the assists being an alley-oop thrown to his high school teammate, Curtis Kelly. Sosa also netted two assists off inbounds plays from his own team’s baseline. Towards the end of the game, as the quality of play deteriorated on all fronts, Sosa tried to force the issue a bit and made two turnovers in the process, both on passes where he was trying to do too much.
